Webinar Ensemble Improvisation
20:00-21:00Online

Online baroque ornamentation course
Zoom course
ONLINE COURSE
Ornamentation in the BaroqueFor all levels -Beginning of July – Online
We dive into ornamentation for a slow movement with Johann Joachim Quantz’s help. Quantz left us an example adagio constructed from basic building blocks. For each building block he notated several ornaments that work. These same building blocks can be found everywhere in baroque music!
On the first day of the course we will work on learning options for one building block, and how to fill up intervals. We are using Quantz’s own Adagio!

MentiParti - Partimento summer academy
Basel, Switzerland
This course focuses on partimento, but there are many related subjects as well. Catherine Motuz is doing an excellent renaissance improvisation workshop and we are learning about solfeggio as well. There are also the partimento specialists Peter van Tour, Ewald Demeyere and instigator Tobias Cramm.
I am going to focus on helping melody players to make their first steps in Partimento on their own instruments.
I will bring together three ideas in separate workshops:
Improvising two part counterpoint on a partimento based on ideas in solo fantasias by Telemann. Being responsible for bass and melody is super useful, i have found and introduces the next step well: improvising on a partimento whilst someone else plays the bass. Your own solo repertoire will be useful, but also the solfeggi we are learning about in other classes, because they use beautiful melodies on typical partimento bass lines that we can steal.
Finally inspired by Martini and Corelli we will look at trio sonata setting improvisations on partimenti!

KVNM RENTRÉE 2022: research in progress
13:30-17:00Parnassos, Utrecht
The Royal Society for Dutch Music History organises the KVNM Rentrée 2022! The focus of this mini-symposium lies on new research. Researchers will present their latest ideas in short presentations and then enter into discussion with other participants. The idea is that the discussion will lead to new insights that can further the presented research. The topics are diverse: from the use of partimento pedagogy for improvisation to the influence of antidepressants on tone perception. There will be an opportunity for drinks and informal exchange after the event.
Robert will be one of the presenters, talking about his ongoing partimento research. Here is a sample in this video:
