More than ever are we loosing touch with our natural inclination towards improvisation. Schools pay less and less attention to the creative act otherwise inherent in children’s play. The Scroll Ensemble’s premise is that all that is necessary is to awaken this innate creativity.
‘Let’s Make a Play’: in collaboration with a theatre director, the children are guided in the process of creating a play with music. Theatre in the 17th-Century knew many prototypes, especially through Commedia dell’Arte. For this project the actors and musicians will have typical scenes prepared (a lamento scene, a battle scene), so children can come up with any story line to which the appropriate music and acting can then be added. We would like children to meet new challenges, inspire them to hear music differently, see history from another angle and be creative in a way unseen before.
