Just off the Dutch border there is a wonderful festival in Nordhorn. In this year’s edition I will use Telemann’s fantasias for flute to start improvising our own. Already in Greek times musicians competed: to get a job, to show off, or because an emperor thought it would be entertaining. Mozart competed with Clementi, Bach was challenged by Marchand (who eventually didn’t show up), Scarlatti and Handel competed and many more did.

Like today’s rap battles, improvisation and competition made classical music a scintillating experience.

Just like with sport’s competitions, we want to give you more of a way into the musicians’ improvisations, with playful ‘sports comments’, audience picking themes and choosing the winners!

So come and sit on the edge of your seat for classical music in the moment.

Bolero! Workshop

Leer improviseren met The Scroll Ensemble. We beginnen met eenvoudige opdrachten, zoals, speel 1 noot met een bepaald ritme. Iedereen kan het begin meedoen, later zie je hoever je komt!

Er is ook de mogelijkheid om daarna mee te spelen in het concert/sessie. Meestal doen we dat gezellig met z’n allen! Bij het concert spelen de leden van The Scroll Ensemble ook improvisaties over dezelfde thema’s!
